Piccadilly Circus, Chinatown, and Captain Marvel
After resting a bit and doing a little research, Dave decided he wanted to head to the Odeon Luxe Cinema tonight to see Captain Marvel. We arrived a half-hour before the 6:30 show, and the seats were all sold out. So we decided to spend three hours walking around the area until the 9:00 show.

We started by walking down to Piccadilly Circus, which is not an actual circus but a big road junction in London. “Circus” comes from the Latin word circle and is just a big round open area at a street junction.

The space is surrounded with shops, restaurants, and illuminated signs.

On the southeastern side of the circular space of Piccadilly is the Shaftesbury Memorial.

From Piccadilly Circus, we walked down to Trafalgar Square. On the way, I met a friendly stormtrooper handing out coupons for Planet Hollywood. I didn’t need the coupon, but I took one anyway along with a hug.

Trafalgar Square commemorates the Battle of Trafalgar from the Napoleonic wars.

The National Gallery is also located in Trafalgar Square. Unfortunately, it was closed at the time we were there, but it holds over 2,300 paintings from various time periods.

We then meandered our way over to Chinatown. The smells coming from the restaurants surely drew us in.

We stopped in a little Chinese restaurant serving up delicious bowls of noodles. Dave had a spicy beef noodle and soup bowl and I chose a less spicy minced pork and noodles bowl. They were both delicious! This was the first time I took the time to actually eat my entire meal with chopsticks. Usually I give up and just dig in with a fork, but as the saying goes, “When in Rome…”.

After supper we still had about an hour to kill, so we managed to find a place close by the theatre to grab a coffee and some dessert.

Finally, it was time to head over to the Odeon Luxe Cinema to see Captain Marvel. The theatre had cushy recliner seats and it was a great way to end this day of travel.

We made it back to the hotel by 11:30pm and our watches had logged over 8 miles of walking. Sleep will come fast tonight!
