Schilthorn Piz Gloria

This morning we enjoyed a continental Swiss breakfast and coffee, each with our own little carafe of coffee and steamed milk.

We departed from Park-Hotel on the Rhine at 9:15am.

We enjoyed the gorgeous bus ride through the Alps into Lauterbrunnen.

As soon as we arrived, we saw skiers parasailing down from the mountaintops.

It was here where Part 1 of our experience began. We all loaded onto a cable car and drifted up to the Schilthorn peak on the aerial cableway in about 30 minutes.

We made various stops on the way up to get on different cable cars. The place was bustling with tourists, skiers and snowboarders all looking for an unforgettable thrill from the Alps.

Once we arrived at the top of Schilthorn, we had a group lunch at the 360° Restaurant Piz Gloria.

This restaurant rotates around its own axis in 45 minutes so we could enjoy the view of more than 200 mountain peaks.

The Schilthorn was made famous by the filming of the 1968 James Bond film Her Majesty’s Secret Service. There were traces of 007 everywhere.

Of course, we couldn’t miss the Bond photo opps!

After “bonding” over our Bond lunch, we gathered with the group out on the Skyline View Platform to take some pictures.

From the platform we had a spectacular view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau along with many other summits.

At the top of Schilthorn we were 2970m above sea level, which is equivalent to 9,744 feet.
