From Germany to Luxembourg
While the men had their plant tour, the ladies got to visit the Birkenhof-Brennerai Distillery, where they use mainly grains and fruit to make their spirits. We learned much about the three-week process it takes to transform corn, wheat, pears and apples, just to name a few varieties, into alcohol.

After our tours, we hopped on the large Mercedes-Benz tour bus and rode to Luxembourg.
In Luxembourg
We arrived at Hôtel Mercure Luxembourg Kikuoka Golf & Spa in Luxemburg around 7:00pm on Tuesday night. We grabbed our bags from the bus, received our room keys and dispersed for an hour before meeting our group of 14 again for dinner at 8:00pm.

Dave and I dropped our bags in our spacious room and decided to stretch our legs with a walk around the hotel grounds, despite going on a few hours of collective sleep since our departure. We found a sign indicating a walking path, which we couldn’t resist following. It began on a paved road and then turned into a grassy trail, which was imprinted with horse hoof marks in the soft mud. We followed this trail along a field and over a small hill until we came to a beautiful view of a quaint little village in the distance. The trail then turned left into the woods, but we turned around so we weren’t late for dinner.

After cleaning the mud from our shoes, we made our way to the hotel restaurant. For dinner we started with a delicious Greek salad laden with olives, cherry tomatoes and feta cheese. Our main course was a breaded turkey medallion crusted with cheese and covered with a tomato sauce. It was paired with the legumes of the day and a roll of linguine noodles. To top off the meal, we were served the most tender and delicious molten lava cakes with a dollop of vanilla ice cream, a perfect pair with the warm chocolate middles. By the time we finished dinner and carried on in conversation, it was nearly 11:00pm by the time we made it back to our room. We cleaned up after an exhausting 36 hours of plane and bus travel. Stretching out in a real bed was divine!
